Fresh - Fix Your Eyes

Start the Conversation

What’s a random or useless fact you still remember for no reason?

Read Hebrews 12:1-2

"1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

  • What word or phrase stands out from this passage of Scripture or from the message on Sunday?

Looking Back at Our “Rows”

In the message our lives are compared to rows plowed in a field — some straight, some crooked, some messy.

  • When you look back on your life, where do you see straight rows?

  • Where do you see bends, loops, or messes?

  • What do you contribute to the straight or crooked rows?

Forsaking the Distractions

  • What are some good things that can quietly become distractions in our lives?

  • Which distractions pull your focus away from Jesus most easily?

Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12 calls Jesus the founder and perfecter of our faith. The message reminded us that Jesus has already “run the race” for us.

  • How do those truths change the way you view failure, guilt, or spiritual pressure?

  • In what ways are you tempted to rely on your own performance in stead of Christ’s finished work?

  • How does “fixing our eyes” on Jesus help us keep our “rows straight?”

Read Matthew 13:44:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

  • What might it look like, practically, to “sell everything” for the treasure of knowing Christ?

Finishing Strong

The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint.

  • What helps you stay spiritually focused over the long haul?

  • What tends to wear you down or cause spiritual fatigue?

  • Who has modeled endurance and faithfulness in your life?

Prayer Requests and Time of Prayer

  • Thank you for the gift of Jesus who “ran our race” for us.

  • Help me to recognize and eliminate distractions in my life.

  • Guide me to re-center my focus on Jesus each day.

  • Give us endurance, joy, and faithfulness for the race ahead.
